Evaluation Question:7

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The main target audience to my pop magazine would be girls aged 13-16. You can tell that my magazine is aimed at girl mainly because of the colours and how it is presented also they why it is worded.  They layout of my magazine is clearing aimed at girls it has boy bands and artist s that have a lot of girls as their fan base. I would say the layout out is suited for girls and it very feminine with the pink and blue colours, even the font is girly as it has hearts in the masthead. It is also targeted at people to like pop genre. Pop means popular and therefore clashes with a lot of other genres which could broaden my target audience so my magazine would be aimed at people who like chart music (e.g. top 10 in the chats).

through the conventions I have followed its clear on who my target audience is. My masthead has heart in it which is what girls like. Also in my content page is has a symbol of a heart and it’s worded in a way a girl would speak, I've done this because it’s how my target audience speak.
When choosing my free give gift I understood that my target audience are aged 13-16 and believe that lip gloss is a suitable gift for my age range. I made my magazine 2.99 because it’s aimed at teens that don’t have a lot of money and by making 2.99 means that they’ll be able to afford it. 13-16 year olds are always on their phones and now day everything has to have some form of social networking which is why I have included social networking where my barcode is and a website for my target audience to get more than just the content in the magazine, so it would be for people who like technology and finding out extra thing about artist or who like looking at images,tweet etc..

My artist isn't wearing a lot of make-up this is to show her innocents and youthfulness. She is still young and I want my audience to relate to her fans. She isn't wearing something fancy or expensive because she is an upcoming artist so she wouldn't have a stylist or designer clothes because she’s still trying to find herself in the music industry. The way my artist is dressed in the front cover and DPS is what a typical teenage girl would wear which would attract my target audience because they’ll feel they can relate to her.

Artist Interview

Why did you start a YouTube channel in the first place? Who inspired you?

I started a YouTube channel I love to sing. It was my friends who convinced me into making a YouTube channel as well as my mum. They would always try to get me go on X factor and Britain Got Talent but I never really had the confidence. I not really that confident even till now. I was so scared when I put my first video up, looking back at it I still cringe –it’s SO embarrassing. I was surprise to see my first 100 viewers and it just grew over the week it was so overwhelming I didn’t know what to do I made another music video and I felt more nervous posting a second video in case it wasn’t good as the first but once again I good feedback.
My inspiration of making my videos were from my mum and friends but a YouTube who inspired me is Sofia Karlberg I liked how she’s just simple in her music videos although I would say a little more girly. I would love to get as many subscribers as her and the amount of views she gets is amazing. She had defiantly inspired me into making my own video and I guess seeing her just doing what she loves despite all the hate comments she gets. She doesn’t let it get to her which is what I admire about her, that was what I was most scared about. She showed me that no matter how much hate you get, just keep doing what you love. Which I why I started my YouTube channel I love to sing and I wanted to share it with the world, but I didn’t expect to get this reaction.

Are you planning on writing you own songs?
I was thinking about writing my own song I have started to although I find it so difficult! I didn’t think it would be that hard making up a good nice song but I don’t want to force it.think I just need to be inspired before trying to make a song. I am thinking about it when the time I right, I do want to have the originality to have my own songs it would also be cool listening to people making covers of my songs on YouTube, it’ll be like looking in a mirror.
When I was little I use to right my own songs copying the tune to other artist songs. I couldn’t sing them obviously because that was when I was young and it probably isn’t as good as I thought it was back then. Maybe one day ill sing them but I know they are terrible, embarrassing too!

Is it true universal wants to give you a record deal?
I did receive an email from EMI (universal) saying they did want do to something with me however, I'm not quite allowed to discuss this at the moment because it is still early stages however I would love it for them to give me a record deal. It’s always been my dream to be able to sing in front of a large audience just enjoying myself. I would love for EMI (universal) to offer me a record deal, I’d really appreciate it.

Who’s you favourite artist currently and how do they influence your work?
Right now I would say right now Charlie XCX I love her style and how she sings. She seems like a really fun girl and that’s how I am once I feel comfortable. I like the song she did with Rita Ora ‘All Night’ the music video is so fun and colourful. if I decide to create a music video Charlie XCX will defiantly influence me. Also looking at her video she looks like she’s really enjoying herself which is what I have to do.

What do you do in your personal life, what do you enjoy doing?
Well actually I like to go shopping with my friends. More window shopping being a student I don’t have much money (she laughs) no but I do really like to by clothes. You wouldn’t expect it the way I dress (She looks downs  gesturing her dress). I also like swimming I find it extremely relaxing and actually an easier way of keeping shape. I'm not into that over exercising heavy lifting. My personal life isn’t that cluttered I live quite a simple life... I guess it explains why I have a YouTube account (she laughs).

Did you think a lot of people was going to view you channel?
I had no idea I receive this much love from people I wasn’t expecting anything like this. Look at me I'm having an interview with Blast Magazine. I just made a channel to share my voice I didn’t really respect a lot of people to share, like and comment on my video. I thank everyone for making this happen because without them I would never be here in a million years.

There are millions on videos out of YouTube and I just amazed by the amount of people who viewed my video- it’s just crazy. I didn’t think I’d get this amount of people watching my video. I’ve thought this would ever happen, it feels like a dream. Seriously. Someone pinch me.

Content page shot

I decided to put this above the music chart because it relates to singer. She’s wearing a white top to show her innocents and sweetness. Her bracelet is pink to match my theme and her nails are blue. I used the a prop to relate to the top charts. I used a mid shot because it showed her in action as if she performing to a audience. It looks like she been caught in action so she look soft and natural. Shes also smiling again relating to my audience bubbly nature.

I made her nails brighter by changing the exposure to match the bright blue I also made sure she had a clear face by using the healing tool and spot tool and enhanced her makeup by using the burn tool. I also liquefied her eyebrow to be neat. I also enhanced the image as a whole to give her a healthy glow this will attract my audience attention because it becomes more bold and noticeable. I used the patch tool to make her skin tone look even.

Contents Page Reseach/Deconstruction

I've marked out where I have gotten my inspiration from and how I've made my content page. I looked at 'We Heart Pop' magazine as it was a typical pop magazine. It helped me come up with ideas and how to structure my content page in a presentable way. I have also looked at Q magazine more so on the structure of it. It’s neat and tidy, easy to read. from my feedback on when i as planning my content page I was told that they liked the boxes and liked the simple layout which is why I researched what magazines has a good layout. to keep my pop genre theme I made sure that it looked girly and slightly cluttered but also tidy. I decided to use pink and the bright blue to keep to my colour scheme. Q magazine inspired me to make the page numbers into speech bubble. I thought I could change it into something more suitable for my magazine adding extra detail.

"Hot Summer Look"

In my pop magazine I decided to include a "Hot Summer Look" section on my front cover, the reason being is because Pop magazines sometimes contain a fashion section. Everything in the circle are pictures I have taken myself. I have also brighten them through Photoshop by using the exposure. I believe this works for my magazine as it attract my target audience of young girls who are into fashion as well as music.

Final Shots taken/Mise-en-scene

I chose a centered mid-shot because it is best suited for my genre. The shot is at eye level, this is following the conventions of my genre. I also believe it shows the innocent, it doesn’t make her over-powering and it doesn’t make her appear weak I believe it makes her look neutral and appealing to look at. I think having a centered shot is effect because it attracts my target audience because she facing straight on. Her face is slightly tilted to portray her innocents and sweetness I also took into consideration that my magazine is aimed at 13-16 year old I think it’s the appropriate pose to have.It also engages the reader to look at the magazine.

I chose light pastel colours for the mise-en-scene to reflect my masthead. The kimono has blue and pink reflecting on my colour scheme. I chose a polka dot skirt to keep to the pop nature of things. I also think the mise-en-scene relates to my target audience it’s something they could picture themselves in which could influence them to by the magazine. Her make-up is natural because she is seen as a pure honest girl. Her lips are pink to add that pop to her face. It makes her stand out more.  It also encourages the younger audience to believe that make-up isn’t necessary and so by having Melody Lock image natural I’m suiting my target audience. The light is bright to make her appear good, sweet and sinless.

Test Shots

These are my test shot for my front cover. I use various poses to see what I think goes well with my magazine. I like the one with  her hand near her face I think it makes her look soft, innocent, angelic and I think it will suit the magazine front cover. I've chosen to use a mid shop as my front cover so the viewer can see some of the mise-en-scene to show her style of what kind of artist she is. I was thinking of having her wearing a crop top and maybe a kimono to make her look cute and playful. These pictures are similar to what i want my model to wear. I'm planning to keep the clothes colours light to keep keep the innocent look and to suit my genre of Pop.

Making My Masthead

This was the making of my mast head. I then edited it slightly on Photoshop by making my name look like its being shouted. I think it gives it a good effect. I've made my masthead pink because its the typical girly colour and it stand out. My font is bold and easy to read i also believe its easy to remember. I've put hearts in the lettering because i think it adds to the Pop genre also it makes it portrays the fun bubbly girly look.

Shot Plan

This are the shots i am planning to do for my magazine. As my magazine genre is Pop i expect my model to look friendly bubbly, youthful and not to have too much make up. As it's appealing to teenagers. I am planning to have my model in colourful clothes to match the playful genre. For the font cover I want my model to wear a flowly dress a pink or blue specifically however I am thinking of maybe having a pattern dress so she can stand out from the background as I'm thinking of having my background white. I also want to make the masthead with my model through her nails or possibly her clothes if possible.

Planning My Flat Plan

This are the similarities what i got from the magazines. I've used these key features because I think it works well together and its effective. I like the layout of both magazines which is why I took certain elements from each magazine for my front cover.
I wanted my content page to be easy to read and will structured. However as a pop magazine its usually bright and cluttered which is what I wanted to avoid so I took these key features from both magazine to create a clear content page but still keeping the conventions of a pop magazine.

Flat Plan Feedback

From my feedback I get the impression that my front cover might be too cluttered. Although that is one of the convention of a pop magazine, I may have cluttered it too much because of this I will take some parts away to look less cluttered and more readable for my audience. My content page seem to have the most positive feedback. They found it easy to read and they like the structure of the page. My double spread sheet page feels like two separate which isn't I want. Although I used the lines to try connect them. To make it look like its together i will make the line more bold. I also agree that my model could be bigger which is why I think I should have a mid-shot. I'm also thinking about changing the props to relates it more e.g having a YouTube pillow

Flat Plan

I used my focus group to help me to design my front cover. I used 'Billboard' positioning because I felt that it was effective and I used some of 'We Heart Pop' main features to make it look like a conventional pop magazine. The colours I'm thinking of using is a Tiffany blue colour and white. I might also use pink to link to my pop theme. For my masthead I was thinking of having a graphic to make it stand out, also to relate to my target audience. I was thinking my pull quote could be "I didn't think I'd get so many hits."

My contents page was influenced by Q magazine mainly as my focus group liked the layout and it was easy to read. I took features from both Q magazine and "We Heart Pop" I also have a design behind the lettering and pictures to fill in the blank space more as pop magazines usually fill most empty spaces. I've added some titles that I may have. I'm thinking of having 'This weeks hottest" in bright pink to stand out.

My double spread page has be influenced by "We Heart Pop" I've also continued the pattern from the content page to the double spread page to link all my pages. My model will be posing with a piece of paper. Later I will edit it in photo shop of her YouTube channel to link with the head line. Some questions I was thinking of was. Did you think YouTube channel would get so many views?
How has this effected you in the way you produce music now? Will you still post videos of you singing on your youtube account or would you use it to interact with you fan base? These are just a few questions I may change them in time and thin of more to add.

Focus Group Feedback

The purpose of having my focus group was to find out what my target audience expect in a Pop magazine. This is useful as it means I can meeting my target audience. It also helps me design my magazine as they tell what they like and dislike and what they would want to see in a magazine.

Audience Research

Powered by emaze
I sent a text message to people of my phone by adding the link in the text message. therefore I know their ages are from 14-17. This is how i got my feedback. I feel this was the best way to attract people of my age and an easy way to get peoples responses. This was successful as 13 people responded. Its also useful as anyone from my contacts can go on it when ever they like people the survey will always be there.
my first question was to see what genre was the most popular to see if pop was the right decision to make which I believe it was as it came to be on top. It also shows me that people like this genre and therefore people around this age will want to buy/rad this magazine.

My second question was to see how man people bought magazines. As I'm creating a magazine is this information I need because it shows me how often people buy magazines.

My third question is important because i need to know what my target audience find interesting and what attracts them to a magazine.this will help me be able to stand out amongst other magazines. It also helps as it means i need to focus on the aspect that they are most drawn to which is the artist and colours.

My last question was to show me what magazines people like because then i can look at these magazines in to detail. For an example i can look at the colours they use and how they use them, what graphics they use and how is their magazine layout structured. This help me as it means i can conduct a magazine what is easy for my target audience to red and designed in the way they like.
